JDM-8 from Murphy Aircraft with
its new canopy and 4 stroke HKS engine
Murphy Aircraft had their new Experimental version of
the JDM-8 with its clipped wings, full canopy and the HKS 700-E 4-stroke
engine on display at Airventure 2003.
Murphy is looking to fill a market niche for a
clean, fast, all metal single place experimental category aircraft in the
U.S. or ultralight category in Canada. The JDM 8 EX weighs in at
just over 480 pounds, has a beefed up wing to handle the higher
speeds which the experimental version will obtain with it's shorter wing,
streamlined canopy spring landing gear, and higher horsepower engine.
The factory indicated that testing is ongoing on the HKS engine which
was mounted on the display plane, and other engine options are also being
looked at to help achieve the performance the plane is capable of.
