Raven Redrives Inc. has been supplying reduction drive units and
conversion kits for the SuzukiŽ line of auto engines. Currently they offer
power plant conversions for aircraft needing 58 to 115+ horsepower in a
lightweight, reliable, fuel efficient, and powerful package designed
around the readily available 1.0 liter, 1.3 liter GeoŽ Metro/ SuzukiŽ auto
engines and the 1.6 liter Geo TrackerŽ/SuzukiŽ auto engines.
This year at Airventure 2003 they had on display their latest model the
1300 SVS a 90 HP (115 HP with turbo) which they say is "an
economical alternative to the Rotax 912 and 912S series of aircraft
engines, plus can replace many of the Volkswagen conversion currently used
on many homebuilt aircraft. The engine is very close to the same length,
width, and height of a 912 with the prop output shaft at the same
location. While it weighs 12 lbs more than a 912 - 80 HP engine it
produces 10 more horse power.
Advantages of using the Raven system include cost - with the purchase
of the kit from Raven and a used engine most builders will spend in the
range of $5500. to power their craft about half what they would spend on a
Rotax 912. They get a time proven design with over 170 units having been
sold with a number currently with over 500 hours on them. Parts and
supplies available from the local automotive supply outlet.
All of the Raven Re-drive kits come with very comprehensive
manuals, picture by picture instructions, and are equipped with the proven
Raven Rubber Cushioned prop hub, with all of the equipment supplied being
produced on C & C equipment at the factory.
Currently motor mounts are available for the Rans S6, Zenair 601,
Zenair 701, and work is being completed on a mount for the Sonic.
