A number of years ago Aero Dovron Inc of Jupiter Florida
introduced a motor glider called the Straton D-7. It was an all wood kit,
this year Dobro Hajek formally of Aero Dovron now of Patriot Aircraft had on display a Straton D-9.
The Straton D-9 covered, looks just like the D-7 - but underneath the
covering plane is a totally redesigned aircraft.

The D-9 uses all aluminum construction (rather than wood), except
for the fiberglass cockpit. The kit comes with everything pre-welded,
preformed, pre-cut, and machined ensuring high quality and ease of
assembly.
According to the manufacturer the kit should take between 250 and 500
hours to build with no special tools or jigs needed. Covering material
used is 1.7 ounce heat shrink dacron sail cloth. The wings use D cell
construction with aluminum stamped ribs.
Both the wing and tail section can be removed quickly for
transportation.
The D-9 is powered by the Hirth F-33 - 28 hp which comes
with reduction drive, pull start and electric start, fuel capacity is 3.5
U.S. gallons.
The control system is standard stick and rudder, with V-tail
ruddervators and ailerons, no flaps or dive brakes. The craft is designed
to accommodate an optional BRS parachute system.
