By
popular demand, we have designed fiberglass skis for ultralight aircraft.
Based on our famous aluminum skis, we kept the sole shape and surface area
the same, and re-designed the body, for better aerodynamics and light
weight, using fiberglass.
The prototype ski passed compression testing to 5G's (we stopped at
5G's and ski didn't break). With both ends supported, and a 2000 lb
pressure applied at mounting pedestal, the ski flexes about 1.5". This
means the skis will absorb some of the shock from bumps. Since it is so
light, we produce only the 10" and the 12" wide version.
The skis slips on the main wheel axle using the proven metal sleeve
fixture design, tested for the last 4 years on a Challenger. To ensure
excellent handling on ice, there is a replaceable steel v-blade integrated
into the base of all three skis.
