BRS ballistic parachute save
#106 |
Charles Handley was flying his Quicksilver MX, one of the
most trusted ultralights in the world. Caught in a mountain rotor wind,
he fought to recover. As he pushed hard on the pedal, the rudder cable
failed.
"Flying near Hillsboro, Oregon, I
got caught in a rotor. The plane just wasn't responding. When the cable
broke, I deployed. After the canopy opened, it felt like I was rising in
a thermal. I landed on a barn roof but was uninjured. If I'd missed the
roof, the plane wouldn't have been damaged much."
Result: Pilot Survived!
